Swiftwater Journey

faith, culture, and growing up in a rapidly changing world

About August 15, 2009

Yosemite 2008I am delightfully a husband, father, and friend, and I am doing my best to make this world a better place for you and me and our families. I am pursuing the Jesus way, learning something new everyday.

I graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary with an M.Div and a Doctor of Ministry in Youth and Family Ministries and have served as a local church pastor in youth and family ministries for about thirty years. I have partnered on the pastoral teams at Rolling Hills Covenant Church in Rolling Hills Estates, CA, Peninsula Covenant Church in Redwood City, CA, and at Hillcrest Covenant Church, in Prairie Village, KS.

I currently serve as the Associate Head of School for Spiritual Life at Village Christian Schools in Sun Valley, CA. I have also served as past President of ParenTeen, a ministry founded by Dr. Chap Clark, that serves the local church and communities who want to understand and embrace adolescents for their good. I teach as Affiliate Faculty in the Youth, Family, and Culture Department at Fuller Theological Seminary.

I am married to Cynthia [we just celebrated 30 years], and together we parent two children, who have [mostly] made it through the adolescent journey. I enjoy camping, surfing, biking, and reading. I care deeply about how our adolescents are navigating a rapidly changing culture which demands more skills, yet they are given fewer resources, including our time. Thus the name Swiftwater Journey. I love kids and long for our cities, churches, and homes to be places of safety, protection, nurture, and wild fun. Our family lives in Southern California.

The views expressed on Swiftwater Journey are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of Village Christian Schools or Fuller Theological Seminary. home>>
